Lindsay Lohan as the next Barbara Gordon? Don’t count on it.
Despite lobbying for the title role in Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon’s Batgirl movie, Lohan is fully aware that her checkered past may derail the online campaign – regardless of how much momentum (read: Re-Tweets) it manages to build.
On last week’s episode of The Wendy Williams Show (h/t Batman-News), the former Mean Girls actress conceded that because people tend to dredge up her criminal record at every opportunity, the chances of “meeting with people to do Batgirl” are slim at best. Ditto for Mean Girls 2, and we’re not talking about Melanie Mayron’s standalone sequel.
You can’t fault her for trying, as Lindsay Lohan is clearly dead set about taking up the Batgirl mantle for Warner Bros. and Joss Whedon. Still, with such high-profile misdemeanors and probation violations on her record, it’d be a big, big gamble for all involved.
We’re more inclined to believe that Warner Bros. will roll the dice on a relative unknown, as it’ll allow Joss Whedon to deliver a totally different interpretation of the young Barbara Gordon. Failing that, Hailee Steinfeld has tossed her name into the proverbial hat, too, and we know the True Grit breakout has accumulated years of experience when it comes to working within Hollywood franchises – namely Pitch Perfect and the upcoming Transformers spinoff, Bumblebee.

And though she caught the industry’s attention, it seems the Batgirl role is now slipping between Lindsay Lohan’s fingers – and, sadly, there’s nothing she can really do about it. Whether that’s a relief or disappointment is something we’ll leave to you, but perhaps this will accelerate Warner’s search for the next Barbara Gordon?
Tell us, what do you make of Lindsay Lohan’s assertion? Is she too risky for Batgirl? Let us know your thoughts.
