Logan Director James Mangold Says It’s Possible We’ll See X-23 Again

Logan was a movie full of highlights, but the standout was easily young Spanish actress Dafne Keen's ferocious, heartbreaking turn as X-23. The character was embraced by fans and critics alike, and because of this we all figured it was only a matter of time before we saw Keen reprise the role in a future X-Men project. And though that still remains a strong possibility, it doesn't sound like it's set in stone just yet.

Director James Mangold was asked if we’d be seeing Laura again during a Q&A at a recent screening of the black and white cut of the film, and though he did confirm that he’s spoken to the studio about it, he wouldn’t 100% guarantee a return from the young actress.

Anything’s possible. I’ve certainly talked to them about it. I even talked to them about it before we made the movie. I thought she was just such a great character, but with what Dafne did, I think that certainly, that’s possible.

Given X-23’s popularity, it’s almost certainly a matter of when, not if we’ll be seeing her again. Because of the timeline discrepancies, an appearance in X-Men: Dark Phoenix is highly unlikely, but what about New Mutants or the planned X-Force movie? It’s possible, but unless Fox plans on implementing one of their now infamous continuity retcons, it does seem like some sort of time travel element will have to be involved one way or the other.
