Logan And Get Out Lead The MTV Movie & TV Awards Nominations

It's only April, but already, 2017 has brought with it some terrific films and TV shows, several of which will be receiving honors from MTV, as the company looks to shower praise upon the best of the best with their annual awards show, which has received a name change. Instead of just being called The MTV Movie Awards, they're now known as The MTV Movie & TV Awards. As always, there will still be a mix of more serious accolades along with some fun/light-hearted ones, and this week, the full list of nominees was released.

Leading the pack in terms of theatrical offerings are Logan and Get Out – easily two of the year’s best films so far – while the small screen nominations find Game of Thrones and Atlanta with the lion’s share of the attention. So, not too many surprises then. At least, not when it comes to the titles receiving the most nominations. Of course, nominating something like Pretty Little Liars for Show of the Year or Jared Leto’s Joker for Best Villain of the Year is sure to raise a few eyebrows, but overall, it’s a pretty fair list.

And again, MTV’s awards are a far cry from the more serious and mature Oscars, Golden Globes, etc. With categories like Best Kiss and Best Hero, they’re obviously targeting a very different demographic and with that in mind, a lot of these nominations make sense. Although, still, Joker as Best Villain? Really? That’s a hard one to justify, and I think even the DCEU’s most loyal supporters would agree with us on that.

Nevertheless, the entire list of nominees for this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards can be found below. Take a look through and let us know who you’d like to see walk home victorious when the ceremony takes place on May 7th.
