Longtime X-Men Producer Hasn’t Seen Dark Phoenix Yet

You know, it really seems like X-Men: Dark Phoenix can't catch a break. Thanks to massive delays and reshoots, the negative bad press preceding the film's release no doubt had lots to do with the public's lack of interest. If being panned by critics weren't enough, the flick posted the lowest grossing opening weekend in franchise history, and took a significant dip in its second weekend. Because of that, many theaters across the nation aren't even exhibiting it anymore.

Well, the hits just keep on coming, as longtime series producer Lauren Shuler Donner admits she has yet to even sit down to watch the movie.  Here’s what she had to say to /Film regarding the subject:

“I have to be honest with you, I have not seen it yet. I’m sure I will be, but I have not seen it.”

As outsiders to the situation, we can only imagine how much went on behind the scenes. When projects wind up being sour experiences for those involved, we tend to hear stuff like this. That said, it’s doubtful Shuler Donner will remember Dark Phoenix as fondly as, say, First Class or Days of Future Past.

Whether or not she’ll be attached to the inevitable reboot from Marvel Studios remains up in the air, but that seems unlikely, as she continued:

“X-Men now belongs to Disney and it’s in their capable hands. That’s really up to Kevin Feige. He started out with me. I trust him. I think whatever he does, it won’t be right away. I think he’s already dealing with the plan that he set in motion for the other Marvel universe. But, I will not be involved most probably. I’ll be friend of the court.”

Although I admittedly think X-Men: Dark Phoenix was middle of the pack when it comes to the series as a whole, I must concede that it’s time for some new blood. True Believers the world over are dying to see what’ll be developed under Feige’s watch, so fingers remain crossed for the best possible outcome.
