Luc Besson Recruits Ethan Hawke For Valerian

For his next effort, Luc Besson will be adapting cult comic series Valerian, and he’s started to put together quite an impressive cast. Already on board for the sci-fi flick are Rihanna, Clive Owen, Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, and now they’ll be joined by Boyhood star Ethan Hawke.

No word yet on who exactly the actor will be playing, but we do know that DeHaan will lead the film as the titular time-traveling agent, with Delevingne stepping into the role of his partner and Owen playing their boss. Like Hawke, Rihanna’s role is also being kept under wraps for the time being, but this is certainly shaping up to be an interesting project.

For those unfamiliar with Valerian, it centers on DeHaan and Delevingne’s characters, spatio-temporal agents who “help defend a utopian 28th century Earth and its neighboring planets from bad guys, with the pair’s adventures rooted in space opera and time travel themes.” Sounds like an intriguing sci-fi epic, one that’s right up Besson’s alley.

While I didn’t particularly care for his last effort, Lucy, the director has obviously more than proven himself when it comes to both sci-fi and action. Plus, with the cast he’s assembled here, there’s good reason to start getting excited for Valerian‘s July 21st, 2017 release.
