BL thinks that Lupita Nyong’o – who played Nakia in Black Panther – would have been “amazing” as the Omega-level heroine, calling it a “missed opportunity” that she’s stuck in another role. He did suggest that Marvel could attempt some “creative twists” in order to make it work, though.

Like BL says, it might not be totally out of the question that the actress could become Storm. If that kid in Iron Man 2 can be retconned as Spider-Man and Stan Lee can be unveiled as working for the Watchers, then it’s not a crazy suggestion that Nakia could be revealed as the MCU’s version of Storm. Depending on how the mutants will be introduced into the franchise, the Wakandan warrior could even suddenly develop weather-controlling powers and white hair and take to calling herself Storm.

In any case, here’s a quick mock-up from BossLogic showing us how she could look:

Nakia already has the romance with Black Panther going for her, and there’s been a lot of talk about the MCU adapting the T’Challa/Storm marriage from the comics. Obviously, if Marvel did go this route, Storm wouldn’t be the Ororo Munroe that we know and love and no doubt some wouldn’t be happy with this twist. But then again, Marvel did something similar with reimagining Mary Jane Watson in the Spider-Man films, so you can never really tell what they’re going to do.

At Comic-Con, Kevin Feige confirmed that an X-Men reboot was on the way, but that’s about all we know for now. So, maybe Black Panther 2 could sow the seeds for their arrival by teasing Nakia starting to control the weather and transitioning into Storm. Hey, we can always dream, can’t we?
