It’s probably safe to say that superhero fans are breathing a sigh of relief knowing how much positive buzz is surrounding Wonder Woman at the moment (you can read our review here). Aside from being one of the most critically acclaimed comic book movies ever, it also had a strong Thursday night gross, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed hoping for an impressive opening weekend total.
And although there’s something to be said whenever critics and moviegoers are in agreement these days, it’s always pleasing to hear whenever onscreen talent express appreciation in genre films. As luck would have it, Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) was fortunate enough to have seen the film already, taking to social media to tell us that it’s “a superhero movie like none I have ever seen.”
Aside from that, it seemed that she had nothing but positive things to say about every aspect of the flick, which you can read in the following Instagram post:
Ok people, I just left the theater and KNOW for CERTAIN that the GODS have seen fit to BLESS us with #WONDERWOMAN. W.O.W. It is a superhero movie like none I have ever seen. Epic. FUN. Engaging. Stylistically Captivating. Funny in an honest, not-trying-too-hard way. Witty. Smart. Perfect length. Fierce. Sensual. Just amazing. #GalGodot will glue you to the screen and at the same time make you want to run to the nearest costume shop to get your W on and join the #GODESSNESS right away (W = #WomanWarriorOfTheWorld). Director #PattyJenkins IS NOT PLAYING AROUND, as she gives us some AMAZON REALNESS in an exquisitely directed story. Chris Pine is irresistable. The score is KILLER. And it is the type of film that I think you can enjoy over and over. This movie definitely goes down as a classic in its genre for me. @wonderwomanfilm #RunAndGoSeeIt #HadToGush #PromotionFromTheHeart.
Despite being someone who’s enjoyed each DC Extended Universe offering to this point to varying degrees, I’m fully willing to admit that they were highly divisive. That said, Wonder Woman‘s seemingly universal acclaim is definitely the shot in the arm the brand needs, especially with Justice League poised to arrive in theaters this November. Let’s just that the hope the momentum continues into 2018 and beyond.
