Though the chances appear slim that we’ll ever get to see Han Solo and Luke Skywalker share the screen again, Mark Hamill got the fanbase all emotional recently when he tweeted a photo evoking the Star Wars reunion that might’ve been.

The image sees Hamill and his Original Trilogy co-star Harrison Ford share a hug, and in the caption, Hamill suggests that this is the closest we’ll ever get to seeing Han and Luke back together again:

“What a Han/Luke reunion might have been like…”

The tweet reads like a callback to a recent interview Hamill gave with Den of Geek, in which he lamented how the Sequel Trilogy will never see a reunion between Han, Luke and Leia Organa due to the death of Ford’s character. In particular, the star recalled feeling that it was a “big mistake” to kill off Han in The Force Awakens, before adding, “I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care!”

Seeing how Hamill is confirmed to reprise his role for Star Wars: Episode IX, and Carrie Fisher will feature by way of unused footage from the filming of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, a reunion between the three may not be completely out of the question, but certainly feels unlikely. For one thing, Ford seems perfectly happy to leave his character in the past, and with the saga’s focus now shifted to younger players like Kylo Ren and Rey, it’s difficult to imagine how a flashback of Han, Luke and Leia could be integrated into the drama.

Regardless, we’ll see if Luke gets to catch up with his old friends at least one more time when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
