Mark Wahlberg Confirms Ted 2

One of the biggest surprise hits of 2012 was Universal's Ted. With nearly $400 million in worldwide box office gross, a sequel to the Seth MacFarlane film was a no brainer. We knew the studio has been interested in doing a follow up for months now and while Wahlberg had confirmed interest as well, he has now told Anderson Cooper that they are moving ahead with the film and that there will indeed be a Ted 2.

One of the biggest surprise hits of 2012 was Universal’s Ted.

“There is a Ted 2,” Wahlberg told the Anderson Live audience. “We’ve already locked a deal. They’re off writing now and I’ve never done a sequel before, but I have just so much confidence in Seth. He’s such a talented and funny guy.”

Looks like the rise of Ted MacFarlane isn’t about to come to an end anytime soon. Though he was pretty well known before his hit comedy, Ted really put him on Hollywood’s radar. You can tell that he’s well liked in the industry too as he’s been given the opportunity to host this year’s Academy Awards. He’s also received the go ahead to write, produce, direct and star in a comedy-western called A Million Ways To Die In The West.

Though we don’t have any firm details on Ted 2 just yet, it’s likely to shoot in late 2013 as Wahlberg still has to finish up work on Transformers 4. With that in mind, you can expect more news to surface in the coming months. As always, when we hear more we’ll be sure to let you know.

Personally, while I did enjoy Ted, I think the hype surrounding it was a bit much. It was funny and definitely enjoyable but it’s far from the funniest film I’ve ever seen. Still, I wouldn’t mind seeing a sequel and I can easily see why the decision to produce one is a no brainer for the studio.

What do you think? Is Ted 2 something that excites you? Did you enjoy the first film?
