The already star-studded cast of the upcoming Warner Bros. film Scoob just got even more talented. Academy Award nominee Mark Wahlberg and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows alum Jason Issacs will both lend their talents to the animated movie that’s set to be released in spring of 2020.
Wahlberg is locked in to play the Blue Falcon, a Hanna-Barbera superhero who joins forces with the Mystery Gang in order to bring down the diabolical Mr. Hyde. Blue Falcon is often accompanied by his trusty pet Dynomutt, who will be voiced by comedian Ken Jeong.
Isaacs, on the other hand, is set to star as iconic villain Dick Dastardly. The mustache-twirling foe is reportedly the main antagonist in the film. Like Blue Falcon, Dastardly also has a loyal canine companion of his own named Muttley, though it remains to be seen who will voice the mischievous hound.
Wahlberg and Isaacs are joining an all-star cast that already includes the voices of Jeong, Zac Efron (Fred), Amanda Seyfried (Daphne) Gina Rodriguez (Velma), Will Forte (Shaggy), Tracy Morgan (Captain Caveman), Frank Welker (Scooby-Doo), and Kiersey Clemons (Dee Dee Skyes). The feature is being helmed by 25-year animation veteran and Space Jam director Tony Cervone, who has a long history with Scooby-Doo and Warner Bros.
The Scooby-Doo reboot hopes to endear a new generation of audiences to the Mystery Gang that their parents and grandparents fell in love with. The flick will integrate characters from all over the Hanna-Barbera universe with new voices and new looks.
After getting stuck in development hell for years, the movie finally appears to be off the ground. It’s unknown whether or not the film will be a moneymaker, but the studio is clearly banking on star power and classic nostalgia to draw families to the theater.
Scoob will be released worldwide on May 15th, 2020.
