Could Black Widow hit the dizzying heights of Wonder Woman?

The latter blockbuster broke new ground for superhero movies, notching $821 million at the global box office and enough stellar reviews to sink a ship. Such a historic, Earth-shaking performance only made Justice League all the more disappointing, as moviegoers flocked to theaters to see Diana Prince (and friends!) in action, only to leave with more questions than answers.

On the Marvel front, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are preparing to launch their own female-fronted comic book movie in Captain Marvel, but it’s by no means the only one, as Black Widow has finally – finally! – been given the go-ahead by Marvel Studios.

Details are few and far between, but with news that Disney is willing to shell out a reported $25 million, thereby making Scarlett Johansson one of the highest-paid actresses in the business, it’s clear that everyone involved is gunning for another MCU mega-hit. And at least according to the Daily Mail, the end product will be with us sooner than initially thought.

Citing a “well-placed source in the industry,” the UK tabloid alleges that Black Widow will see a release in the summer of 2020, which would place it in the same ballpark as Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

It’s merely a rumor, of course, but there have been rumblings that ScarJo’s spinoff will be set before the events of Civil War, thereby allowing screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to largely ignore the events of the two upcoming Avengers sequels. Again, there’s no way of telling if this is 100% accurate, as Marvel typically plays its cards close to the vest.

Nevertheless, we’ll leave you with this Black Widow production rumor from the Daily Mail, which suggests Marvel Studios is aiming high with Natasha Romanoff. Very high.

Scarlett is adored by Disney’s top brass and is a real team player. This stand-alone movie is out there for them, but they feel it can make history. The wages are high, but nothing she doesn’t deserve given her track record as this character. Her agents have pushed through the revenue bonus payment. If it makes over $900 million at the box office then she will get another $6 million.
