Marvel Studios Will Reportedly Recast All The X-Men Except Deadpool

While the X-Men film series has done remarkably well to last as long as it has, many Marvel fans are struggling to summon much enthusiasm these days for the latest adventures of Charles Xavier and his peers, suggesting that the time may be right for the franchise to get a clean slate. And sure enough, in the wake of the Disney/Fox merger, it seems that Marvel Studios is planning just that.

According to sources close to We Got This Covered, Kevin Feige intends to recast all of the stars of the X-Men universe, with the exception of the one major player who still has plenty of momentum behind him, Deadpool. What’s more, it’s said that Marvel will be looking for known actors in their mid-to-late 20s and early 30s for the new line-up, though the next Xavier and Magneto will reportedly be falling somewhere in the 35-55 age range.

Seeing how the Disney/Fox merger isn’t even final yet, Marvel’s plans could always change in the coming months, but overall, these claims sounds about right. Indeed, everyone up to and including James McAvoy seems doubtful that the current cast will continue into the next era, though you do have to wonder what’s to become of Deadpool’s various co-stars. On the one hand, it feels awfully soon to recast Cable, Negasonic and the rest of the gang, especially when the series in the midst of a hot streak, but at the same time, it’s hard to imagine the current X-Men universe continuing to exist purely for the sake of the Deadpool films.

Regardless, we probably shouldn’t expect any official X-Men announcements from Disney at least until the deal comes into effect later this month, but before the franchise gets its reboot, Dark Phoenix will be giving the current team their last hurrah when it arrives in theaters on June 7th, 2019.
