Thanks to Marvel’s Comic-Con panel yesterday, we know that The Eternals is the second entry to come in the MCU’s Phase 4. The film, directed by Chloe Zhao and set to star an ensemble cast led by Angelina Jolie and Richard Madden, has been known about for a while, but this was the first time it had been officially confirmed.

Now, following the big news, Marvel has released our first look at the movie in the form of some epic key art. Seen down below, it depicts the giant Celestials striding across the surface of an unknown world. The god-like Celestials have long been discussed in the franchise – we also met one, Ego, in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – and they’ll play a significant role in The Eternals. As per the comics and the explanation given with the film’s announcement, the Celestials created the immortal Eternals eons ago, alongside their enemies, the Deviants.

The Eternals will be made up of Jolie’s Thena, Madden as Ikaris, Kingo (Kumail Nanjiani), Makkari (Lauren Ridloff), Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry), Gilgamesh (Don Lee) and Salma Hayek as Ajak. It’s set to take place in the distant past of the MCU’s timeline and explore the war between the Eternals and Deviants. We don’t yet know much about how the Deviants will be depicted in the movie, but we have met one of their kind before – none other than the Mad Titan himself, Thanos. Naturally, fans think Josh Brolin might just show up as well.

We’ll have to wait and see if that happens, but Black Widow kicks off Phase Four next May, The Eternals will follow on November 6th, 2020 and 2021 will then bring Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and, last but least, Thor: Love and Thunder, which will round out the Phase.
