Every once in a while, we get a movie that makes a mark on the world that’s so indelible that it can never be touched again. In 1999, The Matrix became that movie. Written and directed by Lana and Lilly Wachowski, the sci-fi epic tackled giant, complex themes about the nature of reality, presenting us with an intriguing story of heroism and self-discovery. And while we thought that the property had been laid to rest after the underwhelming trilogy closer, The Matrix Revolutions, back in 2003, there’s been a lot of chatter lately about Warner Bros. wanting to revisit it.

Indeed, we’ve been hearing that the studio is toying with ideas for sequels, prequels, spinoffs or even a total reboot, and just yesterday news broke that Michael B. Jordan would be at the forefront of this new project. But what form will it take and how exactly does WB intend on continuing the franchise?

Well, things are still a bit unclear, but sources close to We Got This Covered can confirm that the movie will be a prequel, with Jordan playing a young Morpheus. As for the plot, we don’t have specifics just yet, but the film will apparently show us how things became as they were in the original trilogy and how the Matrix came to be.

The Matrix

Truth be told, such an idea isn’t a terrible suggestion. After all, The Matrix spawned an entire reality filled with resistance societies, captive humans, and digital beings. And while we’ve seen a lot of what this intriguing future looks like, going back in time to find out what led to it all and how it came to be would be fascinating.

Whichever option they end up choosing though, one thing’s for certain, and that’s that it’ll be pretty tough to make a final product that pleases the entire fanbase. When it comes to something as iconic and influential as The Matrix, Warner Bros. will have to have to tread very, very carefully, that’s for sure.
