MCU star doesn’t want YouTubers directing ‘Avengers,’ but the good news is they’re already turning down DC

Maybe they don't want to direct an 'Avengers' movie, either.

Having been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a decade – as well as recently being anointed as the franchise’s new Captain America – Anthony Mackie is in a position of power to say things that some of his more recent cohorts may not be able to get away with.

Or at least, that’s how it looks after he became the first high-profile figure associated with Marvel Studios to comment on the Jonathan Majors situation, with YouTubers now caught in the crosshairs. While the actor is merely addressing the prospect of a potential actors’ strike to go along with the one currently being mounted by the WGA in speaking to Inverse, his comments are the tiniest bit ironic considering developments across town at DC.

“It’s a sh*t show if we go on strike. They’re going to have to. Unless they get a bunch of f*cking YouTubers to make Avengers 5!”

Danny and Michael Philippou – known online as RackaRacka – made waves recently when they claimed they’d been offered a DC Studios project to direct, something co-CEO James Gunn claimed he knew nothing about. Instead, the filmmaking siblings opted to reboot Street Fighter as their second feature following acclaimed horror Talk to Me, or so they say.

Of course, Avengers 5 does already in the form of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings‘ Destin Daniel Cretton, but follow-up Secret Wars does not. Will it be YouTubers? Probably not, but Mackie will be sweating for a little longer regardless.
