Mera Rises From The Deep In Latest Aquaman Set Photo

Production on James Wan's Aquaman is ostensibly in full swing, and the director has now shared a new pic of Amber Heard as Mera.

Australia’s sun-kissed Gold Coast is currently playing host to Aquaman (AKA The King of the Seven), and it seems production is moving along at a brisk clip.

Two weeks have passed since director James Wan posted the first status report from Down Under – for the record, it was accompanied by a set photo that appeared to have been taken within the bowels of a submarine – and now, the horror maestro has taken to Twitter to share an official photo of Amber Heard as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis. Of course, we’ve seen Heard in full costume before thanks to Zack Snyder’s upcoming Justice League movie, but whereas Snyder’s particular photo was fairly muted – favoring an ash-grey filter more than anything else – today’s all-new image is a burst of glorious, lime-green color.

It’s not what you would call an outfit for combat, though judging by James Wan’s caption, this snap was likely plucked from an early portion of Aquaman‘s narrative, when Amber Heard’s lead is confronting a potential foe (or friend?) on dry land. If nothing else, it offers up some indication of the aesthetic that James Wan and Co. are aiming for, and we’ll be bringing you all the latest updates as they bubble up from the deep.

Per Twitter:

Rubbing shoulders with Amber Heard are Jason Momoa as the undisputed King of the Seven (real name: Arthur Curry), Patrick Wilson (Orm), Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus), Yahya Abdul-Mateen (Black Manta), and Temuera Morrison

Following up on Wonder Woman (June 2nd) and Justice League (November 17th), Aquaman is the next DC movie on Warner’s slate – that title once belonged to The Flash, but creative troubles have ostensibly nudged the Scarlett Speedster’s standalone pic further down the pipeline – and it’ll be with us on December 21st, 2018.
