On the eve of production getting underway in Cape Town, South Africa, franchise stalwart Milla Jovovich has shared a pair of bloody set photos in anticipation of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

Flying the flag for survival and the remnants of the human race for the final time, Jovovich will reprise her role as Alice, the badass killing machine that has wreaked havoc across Screen Gem’s lucrative franchise. In the photos below, we see the actress take part in a makeup test ahead of returning as the battle-worn heroine in a few days’ time.

Much like previous entries into the series, The Final Chapter will use Cape Town as a primary filming location, taking advantage of the sun-scorched vistas and using them as a substitute for the end of days. From there, Paul W.S. Anderson’s feature will embark on a globe-trotting mission. As the sixth installment, this is purportedly the final entry in the live-action Resident Evil franchise that we know (and love?), with Ali Larter – returning as Claire Redfield – confirming as much in an interview last month.

“I know it is. We are not allowed to say one thing. I am held to secrecy, but what I can tell you is that the script is amazing. They’re really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. — you know, I’m excited to get back in it. I think the fans are just going to be beyond excited.”

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter will bring the curtain down on Sony’s undead juggernaut when the ultimate installment opens on January 27, 2017.
