Casting on The Predator reboot hasn’t always gone according to plan – Shane Black’s redo lost Benicio Del Toro late last year due to issues with scheduling – but when it does, 20th Century Fox’s franchise revival has been able to attract top-tier talent.

Boyd Holbrook (Logan), for instance, is set to take point as Special Forces commando Quinn McKenna – the role once earmarked for Del Toro – while X-Men: Apocalypse star Olivia Munn recently landed the role of a lead scientist. According to The Hollywood Reporter, we can also add Trevante Rhodes to that starry ensemble, now that the Moonlight breakout has agreed to terms to play the part of a fellow ex-Marine operating alongside Holbrook’s protagonist.

Plot details are few and far between, but we do understand that The Predator will take the ghastly alien and place it in the suburbs, potentially teeing up an R-rated scarefest not unlike Predator 2 – in terms of setting, not tone. Black’s reboot, one he crafted alongside co-writer Fred Dekker, has been teetering on the edge of production for some time now, but it appears Fox is ready to get the camera rolling before the spring, so stay tuned for more.

Shane Black will reintroduce The Predator to the moviegoing masses on February 9, 2018, at which point the reboot will be released in IMAX much like Fox’s The Maze Runner: The Death Cure (January 12, 2018) and Alita: Battle Angel (July 20, 2018). Rhodes, meanwhile, will be one of the many breakout stars beating the drum for Moonlight going into this weekend’s Golden Globes ceremony. It’s up for six nominations, including that all-important Best Picture.
