New Spider-Man: Far From Home Set Video Reveals More Of Mysterio

Mysterio got a lot less mysterious this week. Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently wrapping up its shoot in Liberec, Czechia and the roving eyes of fans eager for a scoop are all over the set. Target number one was Jake Gyllenhaal in costume as villainous special effects guru Quentin Beck / Mysterio, and boy have they delivered. Yesterday we got a decent look at Gyllenhaal in what looks like an extremely comics-accurate outfit (sadly minus the fishbowl helmet) and that's now been followed by an equally interesting video that gives us a clearer look at his costume.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is currently wrapping up its shoot in Liberec and the roving eyes of fans eager for a scoop are all over the set. Target number one was Jake Gyllenhaal in costume as villainous special effects guru Quentin Beck/Mysterio, and boy have they delivered.

Yesterday we got a decent look at the actor in what appears to be an extremely comics-accurate outfit (sadly, minus the fishbowl helmet) and that’s now been followed up by an equally interesting video that gives us a clearer look at his costume.

Most notable here is his impressively voluminous cape. Capes are relatively rare in the MCU, with Vision, Doctor Strange and Thor the only major characters to sport them (correct me if I’m wrong on this), so it’s good to see an old school villain like Mysterio rocking a Jon-Snow sized bulky one. Also of interest are the LEDs on the body of his costume. Now, these could be markers for CGI elements to be added later, or they could be genuinely part of this look. The character is, after all, a special effects guy.

It’s already been confirmed that Beck’s going to be rivaled in the villain stakes by the return of Michael Keaton’s Vulture, last seen imprisoned at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming. While this could indicate that the two might team up in a prototypical Sinister Six arrangement, I think there’s a chance that we could see Vulture on the side of Spidey. After all, he was more of a good man driven by desperation to do evil in the last film, he wouldn’t reveal Spidey’s secret identity to Mac Gargan in the post-credit sequence, and seems to feel a kinship with Peter Parker as they’re both working-class New Yorkers.

Anyways, with the shoot now wrapping up, I hope Marvel Studios will release a proper look at Mysterio in Spider-Man: Far From Home very soon. It’d be nice not to have to rely on grainy video, but right now, I’ll take what I can get.
