Sure enough, in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel, Thor’s old flame gets a few seconds of screen time. But in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo claimed that the star didn’t actually actually shoot any new scenes for the film. Rather, Jane’s cameo was made up of unused footage from The Dark World, though according to Anthony, Portman was still called in to do a little voice work:

“A little bit of voice-over when she’s talking in the distance, that’s it.”

You may not even recall Jane having a line in Endgame, but if you listen carefully, you can hear her thanking the Asgardians for taking care of her.

Portman may not have filmed anything new for Avengers: Endgame, but the movie still sees a whole load of familiar figures reprise their roles – often for the first time in years – from Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One to Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce. Even Rene Russo returns as Thor’s late mother Frigga.

In any case, though it doesn’t look like Jane is going to return for any future movies, it’s clear that the God of Thunder himself isn’t done with the franchise just yet. In all likelihood, Chris Hemsworth will reprise his role for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which is now expected to begin filming next year. As for a fourth Thor movie, that remains to be seen, but recent comments from Tessa Thompson have at least given the fans a little hope.
