New Avengers: Infinity War Merch May Reveal What’s Up With Thor’s Eye

Out of all the characters in Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War, the one who will perhaps see the most change is Chris Hemsworth's Thor. That's not too surprising, either, given the state he was left in at the end of Ragnarok, but from a new weapon to slightly different armor, not to mention a potential replacement eye, the fan favorite hero will be undergoing some significant alterations in the pic.

Out of all the characters in Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Infinity War, the one who will perhaps see the most change is Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. That’s not too surprising, either, given the state he was left in at the end of Ragnarok, but from a new weapon to slightly different armor, not to mention a potential replacement eye, the fan favorite hero will be undergoing some significant alterations in the pic.

It’s that last one which has been causing the most discussion, though, and for good reason. If you’ll recall, Taika Waititi’s threequel found the Norse god with only one eye following his climactic duel with Hela. However, that Vanity Fair photoshoot from back in November had Thor looking very binocular, which has understandably led to some confusion.

Will he be getting his eye back for Infinity War? Have the Russos come up with a comic book-esque way to restore it? Or were the pics from that shoot just done like that to spare fans from spoilers and in the film itself, Hemsworth will still have his patch? So many questions, so few answers, and only adding to that now is a new Thor action figure – though it may just reveal the truth.

As you can see, the God of Thunder’s right eye is a different color than his left one here, and we’re inclined to believe it’s not just a mistake on the manufacturer’s part. Especially because there also seems to be a faint scar over one of his eyes, implying that yes, Thor will be binocular again by the time Infinity War hits theaters. But how exactly does he get his eye back?

Well, there are currently a few intriguing theories doing the rounds. One puts forth that Doctor Strange uses some good ol’ fashioned magic to give his fellow Avenger 20/20 vision again, while another believes that during his quest to find and ultimately craft his new weapon, Stormbreaker, he somehow gets a new eye or perhaps heals himself, thus allowing the missing eye to grow back.

Finally, some think Heimdall might be involved in the process. There’s been quite a bit of speculation out there pointing to Idris Elba’s character having the Soul Stone, which he may give to Thor – potentially before he meets his end at the hands of Thanos – and among other things, it could help him restore his sight to its full potential.

Whatever the case may be, we don’t have long to go now before we find out for sure just how Thor will end up looking, as Avengers: Infinity War touches down in theaters on April 27th – a week earlier than expected. It’ll then be followed by the currently untitled Avengers 4 on May 3rd of 2019.
