Between 1979 and ’82, the back-to-back release of Alien and Blade Runner helped cement Ridley Scott’s status as one of the very best sci-fi filmmakers working in the industry, and that legacy continues to burn brightly even to this day.
Case in point: 2017 not only heralds the arrival of Alien: Covenant, Scott’s prequel-sequel that takes the fundamental story strands of Prometheus and steeps them in an acidic pool of old-school horror, but there’s also Blade Runner 2049 to consider. The latter isn’t actually directed by Ridley Scott; in his place, Arrival and soon-to-be Dune director Denis Villeneuve has taken control of the sequel 30 years in the making. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that Ridley Scott doesn’t have a vested interest in 2049 – he is an executive producer on the follow-up, after all.
And so, when quizzed on Blade Runner 2049 during his recent interview with the Associated Press (via Washington Post), the illustrious filmmaker confirmed that the second trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s long-in-development sequel will screen before Alien: Covenant next month – how very apropos.

And while Scott might not consider himself nostalgic, he is at least a little excited about one crossover moment: The second “Blade Runner 2049” trailer is supposed to play in front of “Alien: Covenant” showings, which, Scott says drolly, “will be cool.”
Set some 30 years after the events of the original cult classic, Blade Runner 2049 is set to introduce viewers to K, a replicant hunter played by Ryan Gosling. The two-time Oscar nominee is just one of a handful of Hollywood A-listers populating the sequel’s cast, and up above you’ll find Gosling alongside Knock Knock star Ana de Armas. Also on board are Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Claire Wright, Dave Bautista and Barkhad Abdi as an enigmatic, “deformed” scientist.
Blade Runner 2049 makes a beeline for theaters on October 6th, 2017, when Denis Villeneuve’s long-anticipated sequel will be opening alongside glitzy Lionsgate animation My Little Pony: The Movie.
