MGM, the studio that brought you 1982’s Poltergeist, 2005’s The Amityville Horror and 1988’s Child’s Play, is bringing you, well, Child’s Play…again! Chucky is getting a facelift, and a new trailer for this year’s remake looks to be released soon.
The fine folks over at the British Columbia Consumer Protection website officially classified a new trailer for the movie on April 10th, and here’s the preview in a nutshell:
“Several frightening scenes depicting supernatural beings.”
I’m sold!
If you grew up in the ‘80s and love horror movies, there are most likely a few quotes that really get you going. “They all float down here.” “Heeere’s Johnny!” “Hi, I’m Chucky, and I’m your friend till the end.” And movie makers know it; notice how those quotes come from films that have been remade or sequel’ed, sometimes multiple times? It: Chapter 2 can’t be released soon enough for this horror film buff, and this year’s Child’s Play looks terrifyingly terrific as well.
Judging from the teaser trailer released back in February, we’re going to get an evil doll who acts more like the machines in Terminator than the original possessed Buddy from 1988. This time its name is Buddi, and it seems he’s going to be a little too technologically advanced for comfort.
Of course, fans of the original flicks hate that they won’t hear Brad Dourif’s voice once again yelling, “Give me the power, I beg of you!” But this summer, Chucky will be voiced by Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill. Considering how great of a job he does voicing the Joker in pretty much every Batman animation ever made, it’s going to be a blast hearing him as a killer doll. That, paired with having The Walking Dead’s music man, Bear McCreary, writing the score, and this remake has the potential to do for Tickle Me Elmos what It did for clowns, for a whole new generation.
Child’s Play hits theaters on June 21st.
