Marc Webb has been teasing us with production shots of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on his Twitter feed for the past couple of weeks, including a glimpse at Spider-Man’s new mask. Now, we finally have something concrete for the film as Super Hero Hype has provided an exclusive look at the new costume that’ll be worn by Peter Parker in the sequel next year.
As promised by Webb, the eyes are indeed bigger and there are some changes in the costume throughout as Parker seems to be a bit more buffed up than in the last movie. There’s somewhat of a resemblance to the costume from the Raimi films but I believe it has the potential to be its own thing once the entire costume is revealed.
I imagine a lot of Spider-Man fans are incredibly excited as I am to see the costume go back to a more classic look from the comic books, especially with the return of the white eyes. For now the “gnarlier web-shooters” that Webb also promised are hidden, but it’s only a matter of time before we see those as well.
I want to see a natural progression into the new costume in the film, sort of like what Iron Man did in The Avengers. My theory is that Peter upgrades his costume to be better prepared against Electro or Rhino, who are the main villains in the film and will be played by Jamie Foxx and Paul Giammatti respectively.
The film started production a couple of weeks ago with filming to begin later today.
Check out the synopsis below:
In “The Amazing Spider-Man 2,” for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy — between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away — but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.
Between the synopsis, the costume and everything we’ve heard so far it’s hard to not get excited for the movie. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are both set to return in the sequel while Dane DeHaan and Shailene Woodley will be playing Harry Osborn and Mary Jane Watson.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to release on May 2, 2014.
What do you think of the new costume? Much better, or did you prefer the old one? Let us know in the comments.
