Jacques Audiard has a few directing credits to his name, but his last film, A Prophet, really showed the world who he is. Now, three years after being nominated for an Oscar and winning the Grand Prize of the Jury at Cannes, among many other awards, Audiard is heading back to Cannes with Rust And Bone. New images from that film have surfaced today and we have them for you below.

Rust and Bone was high on many folks’ most anticipated list for 2012, but after the stunning first trailer and its entry into Cannes, the film really took off. The film, which stars Marion Cotillard and Bullhead star Matthias Schoenaerts, is based on a book of short stories by Canadian author Craig Davidson. It follows “the relationship between a homeless man (Schoenaerts) and a trainer of killer whales in a sea park (Cotillard) who loses her legs in a horrific accident.”

These new photos look great and the emotive images of Marion Cotillard add to the speculation that she may be a frontrunner for the Best Actress award at Cannes.

Rust And Bone opens in France on May 17th. So far, no U.S. release date has been announced.
