As you may have noticed from the various New York set photos we’ve been receiving in these last couple of months, Arthur Fleck looks to have an axe to grind with one Thomas Wayne, with one image in particular seeming to show the Clown Prince of Crime provoking a mob to turn against the father of Bruce Wayne. Now, a user on Instagram claims to have an inside source who’s shared with him a pretty good reason for the tension between these two. It seems that Arthur Fleck is the illegitimate son of Thomas, who had an affair several decades prior with a woman who wasn’t Martha. This, of course, would mean that the Joker is the half-brother of Bruce.

Again, this report should be approached with skepticism, especially since a family connection twist is certainly a big enough cliché for a fan to come up with off the top of their head. Still, given that Thomas appears to be a character with political aspirations, this would surely be an appropriate place to take the drama, with the very existence of Joaquin Phoenix’s character serving as a potentially career-threatening source of scandal for his father. If Thomas tried to bury the truth and keep Arthur out of his life, you can see how the antihero could eventually feel pushed into his anarchic outsider persona.

We’ll find out if there’s any truth to the claims when Joker hits theaters on October 4th, 2019, but until then, feel free to share your thoughts on this latest scoop with us in the comments section down below.
