Jared Leto has made his disappointment clear when it comes to how his scenes as The Joker were edited down in Suicide Squad, but even if he hadn’t, it’s apparent that the relationship between the Clown Prince of Crime and Harley Quinn ended up changing somewhere along the line.

Suicide Squad set photos teased an abusive relationship between the two, while scenes from the trailers which didn’t make the final cut and even the official novelization also pointed to The Joker being more interested in controlling than courting Harley in the DC Films Universe. Now, a new image has surfaced which adds further weight to that.

In the movie, The Joker throws Harley from the helicopter he uses to rescue her in order to save the love of his life, but it’s previously been reported that the original plan was for him to throw her from it after she decided to choose the members of Task Force X over her Puddin’.

This Suicide Squad image definitely points to those claims being accurate, as The Joker can be seen giving Harley a stern talking to, and neither of them look anywhere near as close as the movie portrayed them. Based on various reports, the relationship between the two was changed after the backlash aimed at the dark and serious material in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

That’s a real shame, and it will be interesting to see if the Suicide Squad Blu-ray features any deleted scenes showing us what might have been between these two villains.
