It seems now that Baz Luhrmann‘s adaptation of the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic The Great Gatsby is definitely going ahead, despite him saying “I’m not sure it will be my next project.” The casting process for the major characters is pretty much there. Today there is a new one, in the role of Jordan Baker, Luhrmann has chosen a newcomer Elizabeth Debicki. Luhrmann is reportedly very happy with his choice of actress who has only just come out of college:
It was a surprising result, but Elizabeth’s grasp of the material and her chemical connectivity to Tobey Maguire, in addition to her striking, athletic appearance, had us in a place where we were fully confident and ready to take the leap of giving the role of Jordan Baker to what, I guess, people would term ‘a discovery,’. We are thrilled.
Debicki has certainly got a lot to live up to, the cast is littered with stars from which she has to shine. Leonardo DiCaprio will play the elusive Gatsby, Tobey Maguire will play Debicki’s love interest and narrator Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan will play Daisy Buchanan and Isla Fisher has the role of Myrtle Wilson. The only main role left to go is Tom Buchanan, which was vacated last month by Ben Affleck. This project promises to be one of the more interesting for next year, despite the disturbing plans to film in 3D. (Deadline)
