Now, however, a new report claims to have revealed some fresh info, as TMZ say that their sources have told them Kenobi’s spinoff will be called Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story. The working title will apparently be “Joshua Tree,” while Stephen Daldry, who was originally attached to the project when it was first discussed last year, is still listed as director.

More specifically, TMZ’s shared what the plot could be about as well. Obi-Wan will allegedly begin with Kenobi living as a hermit on Tatooine, as he secretly watches over the young Luke Skywalker. However, he’ll have to come out of the shadows when tensions rise “between the local farmers and a tribe of Sand People – headed by a ruthless war chief.” As TMZ puts it, he’ll then switch back into “Jedi kickass mode.”

That’s definitely a believable starting point for the plot. If it’s set on Tatooine, including Tusken Raiders is a must and, due to the backwater nature of the desert planet, it makes sense that the initial skirmish Kenobi would get involved in would be fairly small-scale. However, we imagine that this would open up to a plot with a much bigger scope.

To be clear, Obi-Wan has yet to be confirmed in any way by Lucasfilm, though all the reports are generally painting a consistent picture, so we’re tempted to believe it. Not to mention that Ewan McGregor has frequently talked about how he’d love to return as his Prequel Trilogy character. With any luck, maybe after Solo hits theaters, some official announcements will be made. Fingers crossed, eh?
