Three weeks out from the film’s long-anticipated theatrical bow, 20th Century Fox’s atypical marketing spiel for Logan is finally beginning to reach its crescendo – but not before a second and presumably final trailer releases online.
It’s expected to drop on January 16, and Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold have already been teasing the ‘1974 Frames of Logan‘. That’s the number of frames included in the oncoming trailer, it seems, and yesterday we got a sneak peek at both the first and final shots. Unsurprisingly, Hugh Jackman’s grizzled Wolverine and his pint-sized companion Laura (AKA X-23) continue to be the focus, as the two turn tail and run from “dark forces.”
Thanks to previous teasers, we know those dark forces can be traced back to Transgien, a nefarious corporation out to harvest the remaining mutants and transform them into disposable weapons. X-23 is one such mutant that finds herself on the company’s radar, forcing Logan out of his self-imposed exile. This, and much more, is teased through the film’s official synopsis, which found its way online earlier today through Hugh Jackman’s personal Twitter feed. Indeed, if you’ve been keeping pace with the film’s production, chances are this logline will be overly familiar, but it’s still an exciting teaser nonetheless.
In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Logan, also starring Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen as Laura, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez, will signal the end of Wolverine’s cinematic tenure on March 3, 2017 – for now, at least.
