‘Oppenheimer’ garners huge applause as new footage debuts at CinemaCon

It's now 'Oppenheimer's turn to get the attention at CinemaCon.

It’s no secret that Oppenheimer will be competing against Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, not just on release day but also at CinemaCon. And with day four of this film event taking place in Las Vegas today, it’s now Christopher Nolan‘s turn to get people’s attention. Fortunately, the film’s presentation didn’t disappoint, adding more heat to this cinematic battle.

Nolan walked on stage to loud applause during the Universal Studios’ premiere to talk about the upcoming biopic. Variety reported that the presentation showcased new footage for the film. The director went on to talk about the importance of J. Robert Oppenheimer in human history and how his life work was a double edge sword.

“Like it or not, J. Robert Oppenheimer is the most important person who ever lived. He made the world that we live in for better or for worse. His story has to be seen to be believed.

“His story is both dream and nightmare.” 

The new footage that was shared at the event revealed more about the film’s premise and fans got a glimpse of former Marvel star, Robert Downey Jr.‘s character, Lewis Strauss. At the same time, more clips of Cillian Murphy’s J. Robert Oppenheimer were shown, showcasing a man before his time working on the Manhattan Project.

Nolan also announced when and where the second trailer for the film will be released. Fans who are keen to see more footage for this upcoming biopic will be pleased to know that the film’s next trailer will be released on May 5 and will be attached to Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3.

Oppenheimer was filmed using a combination of IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film. At the same time, some parts of the film were shot in black-and-white. Nolan joked and reassured fans during his presentation that most of the film will be in color. The film has a long list of A-list cast members and notable names, such as Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Rami Malek, and Florence Pugh, just to name a few.

Nolan’s retelling of Oppheniemer’s story will hit theaters on July 21, 2023.
