Rather than being a direct adaptation of the Ragnarok story from both Norse mythology and the comic books, it’s said that the movie actually takes place on a planet (which reportedly has a Mad Max meets Gladiator aesthetic) with that name. It’s there that Thor and The Hulk are forced to fight their way out of arenas run by Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster.

It’s during those battles in Thor: Ragnarok that they meet Valkyrie, a fellow contestant, and Skurge, The Grandmaster’s enforcer. The site mentions that the latter ultimately sees the light and helps them escape, but offer no further details beyond that were revealed.

It remains to be seen how much of the above ends up being correct, but this all sounds pretty intriguing. Thor: Ragnarok may not be the movie many fans expected, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially with a filmmaker as talented as Taika Waititi at the helm.
