First Poster For Body Snatcher Flick The Host

With Stephenie Meyer's main source of riches reaching its end this week when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 hits theatres, there'll be a flutter of panic in the hearts of Twi-hards. They need not worry, however, as Meyer spawned another non-vampiric/non-lycanthropic novel called The Host which has been given a cinematic makeover and is set for release next year. With Stephenie Meyer’s main source of riches reaching its end this week when The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 hits theatres, there’ll be a flutter of panic in the hearts of Twi-hards. They need not worry, however, as Meyer spawned another non-vampiric/non-lycanthropic novel called The Host which has been given a cinematic makeover and is set for release next year. Today, the first poster has landed for this updated body snatcher tale set to enchant fans with further unrealistic relationship dynamics.

Directed by Andrew Niccol (Gattaca, Lord Of War), The Host is set on earth following an invasion of parasitic aliens called “Souls” who possess people’s minds and take control of their bodies. Saoirse Ronan stars as Melanie, a girl whose mind is taken over by a Soul called Wanderer, who refuses to surrender her mind to the invader and so plagues Wanderer with her thoughts and memories.

To take advantage of the massive popularity of The Twilight Saga, this first poster for The Host features Ronan centre stage while the two love interests Jared and Ian (played by Max Irons and Jake Abel) stand either side like book ends. The similarity to the Twilight marketing campaign is obvious but you can’t really blame them for trying to replicate success. You can scope out the poster below, with the trailer set to land tomorrow.

The Host invades theatres on March 29th, 2013.
