Quentin Tarantino Is Mad At Disney Because Of Star Wars: The Force Awakens

While most people are singing Disney’s praises right about now, due to the imminent release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there’s one person who isn’t too happy with the House of Mouse. Director Quentin Tarantino also has a pretty big film about to hit theatres in the form of The Hateful Eight, and according to him, Disney is messing up his plans for its release.

During an interview wit Howard Stern, Tarantino revealed that he was planning to screen his film at The Cinerama Dome theatre in L.A., which was set to premiere the flick on Christmas Day in 70mm. Now, though, The Hateful Eight has been bumped due to Star Wars: The Force Awakens being given an extended run.

“They are going out of their way to fuck me,” said Tarantino. “It was real bad news and it fucking pissed me off.  I made The Hateful Eight for the Dome…This is the first time seeing it at the Dome for me too, and it was like I hadn’t even seen it before, not like this.”

The director went on to call what Disney is doing “vindictive,” “mean” and a form of “extortion.” He’s not the only one that the studio is trampling over, either. Star Wars: The Force Awakens has priority on all IMAX screenings for the next month, which is going to effect a ton of other films.

The Cinerama Dome did try to tell Disney that they wanted to honor their deal with The Weinstein Co. for The Hateful Eight, but apparently the studio threatened to pull Star Wars: The Force Awakens completely from all Arclight Cinemas (the company that operates The Cinerama Dome) locations if the theatre didn’t comply.

Now that this story is out in the open, Disney may pull back on their strong-arming, but as of now, it seems that unfortunately Tarantino is out of luck due to the almighty power of the behemoth that is Star Wars.
