Quentin Tarantino has announced that his final film will soon enter production and film companies have the chance to bid to grab hold of this iconic director’s final work.
The name of Tarantino’s final project is currently called The Movie Critic, and as expected it was all written by Tarantino himself and he will be the one directing once the film enters production. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it was reported that the film is set in 1970s Los Angeles and will have a female lead. It’s assumed that it could be a biopic for Pauline Kael, described as one of the most influential film critics from the 1960s to the 1980s before she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
At the moment, no film company is attached to distribute the film, and the bid to get the release rights for Tarantino’s film could start around this week. Sony Pictures was the last film company that received the distribution rights to Tarantino’s previous work, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood back in 2019, which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. So there is a chance that Sony may come back for Tarantino’s final bow.
Tarantino opened up in a 2022 interview that he wants to quit during the “height of his career” and believes that he’s already worked at the highest level of directing and writing. The famous director describes his work as “an event” and that he doesn’t want audiences to be sick of his work due to “oversaturation.”
If The Movie Critic is to be Tarantino’s final film, may it be as artistic and entertaining as his previous entries. But just because this is the end, doesn’t mean it’s over for the director. After all, he did reveal that he has plans to work on a limited eight-episode series. At the moment, no cast members were revealed, nor was there a planned release date. Hopefully, all of those will be released soon in the future.
