Last weekend, John Krasinski’s breathtaking horror pic A Quiet Place reclaimed top spot at the box office, narrowly beating out Dwayne Johnson’s Rampage. The Platinum Dunes production hauled in $22 million during its third weekend of release, pushing the film’s worldwide total to $213 million on a budget of just $17 million. As a result, there was an unsurprising announcement out of Las Vegas earlier today.

Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos stated during the studio’s CinemaCon presentation that a sequel to A Quiet Place is in the works. Gianopulos praised Krasinski’s creativity, too, saying “it’s the artist with a true vision that makes the improbable happen.”

Although Gianopulos never would’ve guessed that “the very funny guy Jim from The Office” would star in a silent horror hit at Paramount, the studio was willing to take the chance, having endured a tough year or so at the box office – something the CEO also addressed in Las Vegas.

“We’re laying the foundation for the success that Paramount had in the past and I’m incredibly confident that we have the right team, culture, and attitude in place to take Paramount to new heights. And we already started on that road to giant success with A Quiet Place.“

A Quiet Place, which was the first film to enter production under Gianopulos’ tenure, defied box office expectations and received universal acclaim upon release, currently sitting at 95% certified fresh on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. The “Master of Horror” himself, Stephen King, even offered his endorsement of the film via Twitter, calling it “an extraordinary piece of work.”

Directed by and co-starring John Krasinski alongside real life spouse Emily Blunt, A Quiet Place follows a married couple and their three children as they struggle to stay silent, in hopes of avoiding being attacked by malicious creatures that hunt by sound. As we said, it really is a remarkable piece of work and if you’ve yet to see it, you need to rectify that immediately.
