Even though Kevin Smith has kept himself busy in recent years with podcasting and directing episodes of The Flash and Supergirl, he’s proven himself ready for returning to the silver screen. Suffice it to say, his latest offering, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, looks to be a fine marriage of superhero fandom and what fans have come to love from movies such as Clerks.
Long story short, the titular characters embark on a quest to assure Hollywood not reboot Bluntman and Chronic on film. Based on what we’re seeing from the first red band trailer embedded at the top of this article, the new flick will serve as a commentary on the superhero movie genre as a whole. Hey, if Smith’s able to sneak in a few jabs at studio execs who know nothing about comic books yet think they know what’s best for the characters, his stock will go up in my view.
In addition to dusting off the timeless classic that is “Goodbye Horses” by Q. Lazzarus with yet another callback to The Silence of the Lambs, Jay (Jason Mewes) finds out that he’s sired a daughter with Justice (Shannon Elizabeth). Believe it or not, said teenage offspring, Millennium Vulcan, is played by none other than Harley Quinn Smith.
As you could also see from the footage provided, cameos will be made by the likes of Ben Affleck and Chris Hemsworth. Not only that, but Val Kilmer plays himself and Bluntman, so it wouldn’t be surprising if some meta references to Batman Forever are made.
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot will be shown in theaters on October 15th and 17th as part of a limited engagement put on by Fathom Events. As always, it’s advised that you keep watching this space as more develops.
