Robert Downey Jr. Reveals Tony Makes It Back To Earth In Avengers: Endgame

The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame left us on a mini-cliffhanger when it comes to the fate of Tony Stark, with the Phase 1 hero seen drifting through space in a ship that was running out of oxygen. Of course, unless directors Anthony and Joe Russo really intend to end Iron Man’s journey with the character suffocating to death in the middle of nowhere, it’s a safe bet that the guy will be getting out of this predicament somehow, and in a new promo for the Audi e-tron GT concept, Robert Downey Jr. practically admits as such.

While the 4-minute video largely consists of the actor discussing the new vehicle with Audi Head of Design Marc Lichte, there is a moment at the 3:36 mark where Downey briefly alludes to the car’s appearance in next year’s Avengers: Infinity War sequel, claiming that he himself will be getting behind the wheel as Tony Stark.

So assuming Iron Man’s ship doesn’t have a fancy new Audi out back that we’re just not seeing, this pretty much confirms the not-so-surprising news that Stark is going to find some way of avoiding the sad fate set up for him in the trailer and make his return to Earth.

Of course, now that we’ve cleared up any lingering uncertainty around that idea, the question still remains of how exactly Tony will be saved from his drift through space, with two popular theories so far being that either Captain Marvel will come to his assistance or Pepper Potts will be getting the job done in her new Rescue persona. Regardless of what the Russos have in mind, you can expect the debate to continue until Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26th, 2019.
