Rumor Suggests Green Lantern Corps Will Be The DC Equivalent Of Guardians Of The Galaxy

Even by the inflated standards of the superhero genre, the past 24 hours have proven to be a whirlwind of DC-related announcements – Joss Whedon picking up the torch on Justice League, for instance – and HD costume pictures designed to take you up close and personal with five of the six costumed crusaders: Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.

But it doesn’t end there; Reddit has now posted a series of yet-be-confirmed morsels of information relating to six major DC tentpoles cramming up the pipeline, one of which is the long-in-development Green Lantern Corps movie. And so, after uncovering a handful of alleged tidbits pertaining to The Batman and its roster of villains, not to mention the horror elements of James Wan’s Aquaman, the Reddit thread narrowed the focus to Hal Jordan and John Stewart’s spacefaring buddy-cop movie.

Little is currently known about the Emerald Knight’s entry into the ever-evolving DCEU; what we do know, however, is that a staggering number of big-name Hollywood stars have become linked with the project, including James Marsden, Jake Gyllenhaal, Armie Hammer and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 star Bradley Cooper.

Speaking of Marvel’s dysfunctional family of A-holes, that Reddit report goes on to claim that Green Lantern Corps is being aligned to be the DC equivalent of Guardians, with much of the 2020 tentpole set to take place among the stars.

Here’s an extract, just remember to take it with a pinch of salt:

Green Lantern Corps (2020): This is supposedly going to take place off Earth and in space. It will contain two main characters including Hal Jordan. It is supposed to be like Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”; showing a setting other than Earth, and expanding the DC “universe”. Not much else has been talked about regarding this movie.

As things stand, Green Lantern Corps is on course to hit theaters in 2020, and finds itself between Cyborg and The Flash‘s solo movie, which may just emerge from development limbo sporting the title The Scarlet Speedster. Alas, that’s another unconfirmed piece of speculation in a report full of them, but we’ll be bringing you all the latest on this story as more information comes to light.
