For the longest time it looked certain that the Merc with a Mouth would be placed on the shelf indefinitely following Wade Wilson’s cameo appearance in middling spinoff X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Fast forward to the present day and after a test reel jettisoned the beloved anti-hero back into the limelight, production has all but wrapped on 20th Century Fox’s anticipated and uncompromising Deadpool film.
News comes via Ryan Reynolds’ official Twitter feed, where the actor shared a photo from the Vancouver set all the while thanking the legions of fans for making the movie possible in the first place.

Now, Deadpool will enter its extensive post-production phase as VFX artists and digital effects gurus round out Tim Miller’s template. Mind you, considering that Reynolds himself hinted at the possibility of including Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in the final cut, don’t be too surprised if the cameras are rolled out to capture a few final scenes.
Adorning the blood-red guise once more, the Canadian actor will play the title role of Wade Wilson, a former Special Forces operative who is endowed with rapid healing powers after an experiment goes awry. Taking on the mercenary mantle as Deadpool, our atypical protagonist soon hunts down he man who almost destroyed his life.
With an R rating to call its own, Deadpool will blast into theaters in time for February 12, 2016. Until then, tell us, are you excited to see Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth?
