Variety first broke the news that Sacha Baron Cohen was in final talks to join Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Now The Wrap has confirmed through Cohen’s reps that he has indeed joined the cast in the role of “Scotty, a gambler who buys Django’s wife, Broomhilda, played by Kerry Washington, as a female companion.”

Jonah Hill stated earlier in the week that he was offered a role in the film, which from reading the script, was likely Scotty. It is interesting however, that though Hill and Cohen look nothing a like, Tarantino has chosen to stick with a predominantly comedic actor for the part.

This of course will be a great role for Cohen, who is quickly establishing his name as a legitimate actor. I’m looking forward to seeing how he handles himself in a film like this.

Django Unchained stars Jamie Foxx, Leonardo DiCaprio, Christoph Waltz, Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Kerry Washington, Sacha Baron Cohen, Michael Kenneth Williams, Don Johnson, Dennis Christopher, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Anthony LaPaglia and will be in cinemas on December 25th, 2012.
