With the May 4th release date looming closer, Marvel continues their marketing blitz for The Avengers today with some brand new behind the scenes photos. The images feature Joss Whedon on set directing various scenes with the film’s excellent ensemble cast.

Despite the overload of promotional material for the film that we’ve been seeing recently, these pics are pretty awesome, especially the one above. That being said, I’m not sure how much more we need to see from the film.

We all know it’s going to be awesome and it’s guaranteed to destroy the box office. But, then again, the fanboys are likely eating this stuff up and so, Marvel will undoubtedly continue to assault us with footage/images right up until the film’s release date. With a film of this scale though, I guess that’s to be expected. With the film’s $220 million budget on the line, I’m sure the studio execs are doing everything they can to ensure that the film will turn a profit, which I have no doubt that it will.

The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Cobie Smulders, and Clark Gregg.

It will open in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on May 4th, 2012.
