One of the more intriguing cogs within DC and Warner’s vast, hulking epicĀ – which also goes by the name Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice – has been the involvement of Monsters starĀ Scoot McNairy. Quietly added to the ensemble early last year, there was nary a mention of the role McNairy would be playing, and fans have been speculating ever since.
What really sent this conjecture into overdrive was the fact that the actor was spotted on the set of Dawn of Justice wearing knee-high green tights, indicating that some form of CG wizardry was in play. According to /Film, an extra working on production teased late last year that McNairy would be playing Jimmy Olsen – only with somewhat of a twist.
Scoot is playing Jimmy Olsen, but with a bit of a twist. Jimmy was injured during the battle of Zod vs Superman. His legs where pinned under falling building rubble and that caused him to lose the legs. He now walks with the use of two prosthetic legs. He doesnāt blame Superman for it [his loss of legs]. He feels grateful that Superman saved the world.
Fast forward to today and though many would have liked the actor to jump into the shoes of either Metallo, Blue Beetle, Robin, Maxwell Lord or even Doomsday, Heroic Hollywood has seemingly confirmed that McNairy will indeed play Jimmy Olsen in the 2016 superhero showdown, an investigative journalist at the Daily Planet who suffered a serious injury during the calamitous, city-levelling brawl between Zod and Supes.
If this proves to be accurate, it’s further evidence of Zack Snyder’s tentpole subtly drawing ties from Man of Steel, after the latest trailer includedĀ a shot of Ben Affleck’s Caped Crusader witnessing the aforementioned showdown from ground zero, where theĀ Metropolis division of Wayne Enterprises also become collateral damage.
We’ll keep you updated on the status of Scoot McNairy’s role in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, though it’s now all but confirmed that he will be playing Jimmy Olsen.
Snyder’s epic opens on March 25, 2016.
