Sebastian Stan Doesn’t Know If Bucky’s In Avengers 4

Based on all the stories we’ve heard of fake scripts and last-minute info, being a cast member for Avengers: Infinity War and the upcoming Avengers 4 sounds like a really confusing experience. And with the two movies being shot simultaneously, Sebastian Stan goes as far as to claim that even he doesn’t know if he’s in the next one.

The Bucky Barnes actor made this admission while speaking to Collider, explaining that no one ever told him which of the two films his scenes would feature in:

“When I was shooting anything, nobody ever told me what was part one or part two. The truth is, I don’t even know if I’m in [Avengers 4]. What I shot was in part one. And anything that I shot may or may not have been in part one or part two and I still don’t know. There were things that we shot that were never gonna’ make it because it was easier to just convolute the whole thing. So in a way, you go ‘Alright, that’s cool, but…’”

Since Stan has presumably seen Infinity War, you may feel it’s an obvious counterpoint that he could easily deduce which of his scenes were intended for the sequel by process of elimination. Nonetheless, the runtime for Avengers 4 is thought to be undergoing some heavy trimming before it makes its way to theaters, so maybe this claim isn’t as farfetched as it might initially sound. In fact, it was a similar sort of confusion that previously led to Stan accidentally dropping the spoiler that Michael Douglas will be reprising his role as Hank Pym in the upcoming film.

A few weeks ago, Stan’s co-star Karen Gillan offered further insight on the bewildering environment on set, explaining that the cast don’t even get full scripts, and are only told what they need to know in order to perform each of their scenes. From the sound of things, none of the actors have a clear idea of the overall story of next year’s release, but at least Stan has faith that directors Anthony and Joe Russo have something very special planned:

“But you know it’s going to deliver on a level that we probably haven’t even digested yet. Because that’s what they do best.”

Avengers 4 is headed for theaters on May 3rd, 2019, and regardless of whether or not Bucky is in it, we’ll definitely be seeing him again in his own show opposite Sam Wilson.
