Second Prologue Short For Alien: Covenant Sheds Light On The Events That Transpired After Prometheus

To commemorate Alien Day, 20th Century Fox has rolled out a second prologue for Alien: Covenant that brings the sequel closer in line with Prometheus.

Prepare to raise a glass to MU-TH-UR 6000! It’s Alien Day, dear readers, and 20th Century is celebrating the occasion by unveiling the second prologue short for Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott’s prequel-sequel that’s all set to pump terror back into one of cinema’s greatest horror franchises.

Five years ago, Scott stretched the Alien series in a new direction to give life to Prometheus, an admittedly divisive prequel that raised a whole lot of questions, and not nearly enough answers. Truth be told, the 2012 sci-fi pic tends to attract a lot of vitriolic hate online, but Prometheus is a crucial part of the franchise’s blood-splattered timeline, and the video above sheds light on the connective tissue between it and Alien: Covenant.

We should warn you that Covenant‘s second prologue – the first being the Last Supper promo in which the crew raised a glass before retiring to hypersleep – is riddled with spoilers, so if you’re wanting to experience those otherworldly thrills and spills for the first time on May 19th, avert thy eyes.

Still with us? After Empire teased the moment in which Michael Fassbender’s sinister android David unleashed his wrath upon the Engineer home world, this extensive prologue scene leaves little to the imagination. As the two sole survivors of the Prometheus expedition, David and Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw are seen here making tracks to Paradise on board one of the Juggernaut ships.

The two even manage to foster some semblance of friendship, too, as Shaw nurses David back to health before entering cryogenic sleep. But once Michael Fassbender’s synthetic is left on his own, things begin to take a turn for the worse, as he stands next to a cavernous room filled with cylindrical pods containing that DNA-blending black goo – or Alien pathogen, if we’re being all technical. Granted, today’s clip stops just short of the money shot, but it isn’t too difficult to piece together the various story clues, and we understand that the Covenant crew will be stepping foot on that same planet long after David has unleashed the weapon of mass destruction.

We’ll find out for sure one way or the other when Alien: Covenant slithers into theaters on May 19th.
