Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, War of the Planet of the Apes and Jordan Vogt-Roberts’ Kong: Skull Island are all films that have eased into production in recent times, and now Screen Gems and LakeShore Entertainment’s Underworld 5 joins that list, with principal photography now underway on the horror sequel.
Setting up shop in Prague, the ten-week shoot will be set against the medieval architecture of the Czech capital, which will play host to both Kate Beckinsale – who returns as series stalwart Selene – and The Divergent Series‘ Theo James. They’ll be joined by Sherlock and True Blood’s Lara Pulver, who joined the casting list just prior to filming kicking off.
Keen to redeem 2012’s underwhelming Awakening, Lakeshore and Screen Gems has instated Anna Foerster at the helm for Underworld 5 – which may gain the subtitle New Generation in the coming weeks. Switching gears from cinematographer to director, Foerster has attracted Hollywood big wigs after serving as director of photography on such blockbusters as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and White House Down. Now, after laying siege to some of Earth’s most notable monuments, it’s time to venture into all things supernatural.
Completing the cast for Underworld 5 are Game of Thrones star Charles Dance, who will once again play the part of Thomas, a Vampire elder and leader of one of the few remaining Coven groups in existence. Beyond that, the action-horror sequel will also feature James Faulkner, Peter Andersson, Daisy Head and Tobias Menzies.
The sprawling war between the Lycans and the vamps will continue at some point in late 2016 or early 2017. Stay tuned for more on Underworld 5 as the production gets underway.
