Deadline is reporting that Sony PIctures is looking to acquire U.S. distribution rights for Kathryn Bigelow's upcoming Osama Bin Laden picture. Mark Boal is currently getting the script ready and financing will come from Megan Ellison's Annapurna Pictures. A fall start date is likely with a 2012 release date to follow. Reportedly, Sony will put up a $25 million P&A guarantee and the budget will come in somewhere between $25 and $30 million. Ellison will still need to sell international rights and Deadline believes the job for that will go to Summit Entertainment, due to the job they did on The Hurt Locker.

Megan Ellison is making quite a name for herself in Hollywood, financing not only this film, but also purchasing the rights to Terminator for a cool $20 million and attaching herself to a number of other high profile projects in Hollywood.

The project is certainly intriguing, not only for the subject matter but also because Bigelow is behind it. Making things even more appealing is Hollywood’s current go-to actor Joel Edgerton is set to star, and you can be sure the rest of the cast will be equally as impressive.
