Sony Still Planning To Make That Black Cat/Silver Sable Movie

Beginning with Venom last October, Sony launched their own Marvel universe starring Spider-Man's rogues gallery. Morbius is the next one set to arrive, but at one stage it was going to be Silver and Black, starring anti-heroines Black Cat and Silver Sable teaming up. For a while there, Gina Prince-Bythewood was attached to direct but ultimately the project fell apart. Last thing we heard, the idea was to make separate movies for the characters instead.

But is this still the plan? Sony producer Amy Pascal was asked about the potential for Felicia Hardy/Black Cat on the big screen in an interview with ScreenRant and emphasized how much she likes the character, reminding us that Felicia has already made her movie debut.

“That’s a good question. I like Black Cat a lot, I think she is a really great character. We had her a little bit in the Amazing [Spider-Man] movie, but she’s kind of that character that we didn’t really turn into the Black Cat yet. I think that’s a really great character.”

Pascal is referring to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in which Rogue One star Felicity Jones played Felicia. She only had a minor role in the film, serving as Harry Osborn’s loyal assistant, but no doubt the plan was to bring her back in future installments of the franchise. Before Sony made a deal with Marvel to reboot Spider-Man in the MCU, that is.

ScreenRant then specifically asked if Silver and Black could still happen, and Pascal confirmed that it’s still in the works.

“We’re still working on that. I think we have plans for that.”

Previous intel had pointed to a clash over character usage causing Silver and Black to hit a snag. Apparently, Norman Osborn was due to play a role in the Sony film, but Marvel has big plans for the villain as well, beginning with Spider-Man: Far From HomeIt seems Marvel won out and the Black Cat/Silver Sable movie had to go back to the drawing board, without Prince-Bythewood.

While we wait and see whether the Black Cat movie will land on its feet, Morbius is due in cinemas next July.
