Bringing an end to months of speculation, the Mouse House took to Twitter earlier this morning to make the announcement, teasing the “next chapter of the Skywalker saga.” It’s a moniker that has been long on the cards, according to Johnson, who seemingly settled on The Last Jedi before the cameras started rolling on Disney’s hotly-anticipated sequel. Fast forward to now and with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story doing gangbusters at the worldwide box office, the company is all set to draw attention back toward the core Star Wars saga in anticipation of Episode VIII‘s arrival this December.

The first trailer will reportedly be unleashed sometime in April to coincide with the annual Star Wars Celebration, and with The Last Jedi title now officially out in the wild, we can readily expect those weird and wonderful fan theories to begin pouring online over the coming weeks. Including ‘Jedi’ in the title certainly alludes to Rey and Luke’s major roles, and it’s understood Rian Johnson’s upcoming sequel will pick up right where The Force Awakens left off on Anch-To.

Our two heroes aren’t alone, it seems, but where exactly Rey and Luke go from here is really up for question. A reunion with General Organa is all but certain, and though Disney has ruled out the possibility of incorporating a CG Leia in Colin Trevorrow’s Episode IX, we know that Carrie Fisher had completed her work on Episode VIII before her tragic death late last year. Will the Skywalker siblings be reunited come December? Time will tell.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be with us on December 15th, 2017. For now, tell us, what’s your knee-jerk reaction to Episode VIII‘s official title? Let us know your thoughts in the usual place below.
