Star Wars Fans Are Now Campaigning For A Solo Sequel

Despite the overall failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story, many fans have come out in support of a sequel on the anniversary of its release.

It’s already been one year since Solo: A Star Wars Story was released in theaters. Or at least it will be after this weekend.

The film, having failed to reach $400 million at the box office and receiving mixed reviews (its Rotten Tomatoes score came out to a 70%, and our own Matt Donato gave it 3/5 stars), was considered a flop, at least by Star Wars standards.

However, perhaps the most damning consequence of the Ron Howard picture is the sudden cessation of standalone anthology films. Many, including series icon Mark Hamill, perceived this movie to be one of the leading causes behind “Star Wars fatigue.”

With that said, Solo fans have flocked onto Twitter today in support of a potential, but certainly unconfirmed, sequel. In fact, #MakeSolo2Happen is currently trending, and you can check out some of the tweets below.

Though the film was divisive, I thought it fended off its monstrous expectations well enough. In terms of the casting and performances, Woody Harrelson’s always a joy to see, but young actors Alden Ehrenreich and Donald Glover, who had the unfortunate and doomed tasks of filling in the shoes of Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams, made the illusion work for me.

What most fans are probably excited to see, however, is the return of Darth Maul, who made an appearance at the tale end of Solo. And given that Ray Park, the actor behind the horn-headed villain who reprised his role for the first time since 1999’s The Phantom Menace, has already said he’d be down for a sequel, the ball may already be rolling at Lucasfilm.

But what say you? There were plenty of people out there who rejected the idea of the first Solo: A Star Wars Story, so how does the possibility of a second one sound?
